Timer: FAQ's

Need help selecting a part? Can't find the part you need? Call 1-800-325-3255, a Four Seasons Representative is ready to help you.

1. How do I know when to replace my timer?

Since there are so many different types of tanning units, there are just as many different types of timers-if not more. If your unit is not working properly, and you are trying to determine if the timer is at fault, there are very many ways to go about this.
First, locate your owner's manual for the tanning unit in question. There are usually troubleshooting guides that will help you.
If you cannot find your owner's manual or there isn't enough information to help you, either contact the bed manufacturer or call our parts hotline at the number above for troubleshooting instructions.
Generally speaking, you must determine whether you have power (voltage) coming into the timer. If you do not, then usually the problem is stemming from somewhere else in the unit such as the breaker, wiring, or relay

2. How do I know that I am ordering the correct replacement timer?

Please have the make, model, and year of your tanning unit ready. Most distributors have a cross-reference on popular bed models to find your replacement timer.
Have any identifying part numbers off of the timer, as well as an accurate physical description of the part.
Be sure to tell your sales representative if the timer you are looking for is an on-bed timer, a remote, or other. Also let them know if it is a twist timer or a digital timer.
In many cases, timers are no longer available. This may be due to the fact that the bed manufacturer is out of business, the particular model of tanning unit has been discontinued, or the timer itself has been discontinued.
Most manufacturers and parts distributors have aftermarket replacement options for you. Please consult your parts sales representative for more information on installation procedures.

3. I've ordered my replacement timer, and now I'm not sure on how to install it. What do I do?

As mentioned before, there are so many different types of timers on the market. It would be impossible to list all installation instructions for every model of tanning unit and timer on this website.
First, find the owner's manual for your tanning unit for installation instructions.
Locate the timer on your tanning unit if you have not done so already. Find access to the wires. Some timers are easily accessible; others may take more work.
If the replacement timer is exactly like the existing timer, you should have very little to no trouble. Simply mark the wires and notate what color wire goes to what position on the timer. Hook the wires to the new timer in the same manner that they came off of the old timer.
If this timer does not look the same because it is an aftermarket replacement and you are unsure of how it is installed, please contact the distributor from whom the part was purchased for further instructions.
You may also want to consult a licensed electrician.

4. I want to control all of my tanning units from my front desk on one central controller. What do I need to know?

There are many front desk control units on the market today. Some of the most common brands: T-Max (Applied Digital), CCS (Intellitan), TanTime (EPAD), FST, and Database (Westar).
There are front desk controllers on the market to control 5 beds, 10 beds, 40 beds, and 64 beds.
First, make a list of every tanning unit that you have. Include make, model, and year. Note what type of timer the unit currently has, whether twist, digital, or other. Having this information ready will help your parts representative get you an accurate price quote.
If your tanning units are older models, or newer models with twist timers, you will probably have to buy additional timer products in order for them to "communicate" with your front desk timer.
Some models with built-in digital timers will not "speak" directly to some brands of front desk controllers. You may have to purchase additional accessories in order for these units to work with the front timer.
Know what you want: do you want a timing system that is salon software compatible? How many beds do you want to be able to control? What features (such as session delay, clean room feature, security functions, etc.) are you looking for?
If you already have an out-dated front desk controller and are looking to upgrade with another brand, be prepared to rewire your salon if necessary. The amount of rewiring depends on what type of timer you are using now and what brand of timer you are converting to.
You may want to contact our parts hotline and speak to a parts representative about everything you will need for your timing system. Call 1-800-325-3255.
